The governor of Minas Gerais state, Romeu Zema, was in São Paulo at the beginning of the month for a series of commitments. Among them, Zema had a meeting at the headquarters of the Brazilian Tree Industry (Ibá), with the entity’s president, Paulo Hartung. Zema presented the potential of Minas Gerais and reaffirmed that the state is prepared to receive more investments in the sector.
According to the government of Minas Gerais, Minas is the state with the largest area of planted forests in Brazil, totaling 2.3 million hectares of cultivated area and 1.3 million hectares of preserved area. The state, in addition to producing cellulose, is a major supplier of wood charcoal to steel industry.
During the meeting, Zema presented the state main advances in several areas in the four years of his administration, highlighting the biggest budget surplus in history, of R$ 2.2 billion. On the same day, the governor met with executives from Suzano Papel e Celulose.
