BASF will be at Expoforest 2023, bringing news and presenting its complete portfolio for managing Eucalyptus and Pine forests.
In addition to getting to know products such as Pendulum® Aqua, a pre-emergent herbicide highly selective for the crop, and Fastac® 100, an effective ant killer for large ant nests, visitors will also be able to talk to the technical and commercial team and learn more about BASF’s solutions for forestry challenges.
According to the latest report by the Brazilian Tree Industry (Ibá), gross revenue from the forest sector in 2021 was the highest in its history, reaching R$ 244.6 billion and 9.93 million hectares of productive planted area in the country. This result and the relevance of the sector for the Brazilian economy are directly related to the proper management of weeds that can harm forest productivity.
The Pendulum® Aqua pre-emergent herbicide controls the main weeds such as Brachiaria grass, Colonian grass, Colchão grass, Marmalade grass, Purslane, among others. Its water-based microencapsulated formulation provides high residual in wet periods, and, as it is selective for Pinus and Eucalyptus, it can be applied on the plants, in the row, between the rows or in the total area, in the initial stage of the forest before the weeds emerge from the soil.
According to Embrapa Floresta, leaf-cutting ants are the main pests in forestry, capable of defoliating Eucalyptus and Pinus forests, preventing development and directly affecting their growth rate, especially in dry seasons. Large infestations can reduce up to 1/3 of the productivity of these crops.
Aware of the challenge of effectively controlling leaf-cutting ants, BASF has developed the only portfolio on the market that allows integrated pest management, with efficient and diversified solutions to mitigate impacts and safeguard forest productivity. The Fastac®100 insecticide is yet another alternative for controlling large anthills, immediately paralyzing the entire operation and quickly controlling the pest infestation. Flexible at the time of application, the insecticide becomes even more effective.
“The Brazilian forestry market generates inputs, jobs, moves the economy and shows us that it is possible to balance productivity and environmental preservation. Good management strategies go through the use of appropriate products, applied safely and that make it possible to effectively control factors that may, in some way, compromise the productivity and operational efficiency of forestry. Events like Expoforest are great opportunities to leverage a sector that is so relevant and that brings so many benefits to our country,” says Ricardo Zanquettim, Forestry Business Manager at BASF.
Signumat Tecnologia Florestal, headquartered in Blumenau/SC, is a subsidiary of the Austrian group Latschbacher Gmbh, which has been operating in the world for over 50 years with solutions for forestry traceability and logistics.
For Expoforest 2023, the company is bringing the latest innovations in forestry traceability tags, as well as innovative tools to help with forestry logistics, including the plastic anti-crack clamp, specially designed to contain cracks in wood.
“The forest traceability theme is increasingly relevant globally, and Expoforest is the space that Brazil has to bring together the needs of solutions in the forestry sector. We are very proud to be present at this fair organized by Malinovski”, says Joel Farias, director of Signumat.
Confirmed as an exhibitor at the largest dynamic forest fair in the world, MTower has been revolutionizing the markets in which it operates with connectivity, lighting and remote monitoring.
In addition to participating in the event, MTower will provide eight solar lighting towers for sustainable lighting during the assembly, event and disassembly period. The partnership entered into with Malinovski for Expoforest 2023 will ensure the event is held with quality light and maximum operational security for all involved. The towers will be scattered throughout the area, especially in parking lots.
According to Ricardo Righi, CEO of MTower, providing operational security and sustainability are two of MTower’s main principles. “This partnership with the organizer made a lot of sense for us from the beginning because, in addition to being able to contribute a little with one of our solutions in the operation of the fair, it is extremely beneficial not only for both companies, but also for the environment. I talk about the environment because using solar lighting towers, the emission of polluting gases is zeroed and we also eliminate the risk of fire”, highlights Ricardo.
In this first participation, MTower will have some of the more than 150 models of equipment that the company owns. At stand 04, visitors will be able to check out the innovations of the MTower Solar Lighting Tower, Standard and Premium models. The Surveillance Tower and Solar Lighting unites the best in efficient and sustainable lighting, with 24-hour security. In addition to lighting and surveillance equipment, MTower will be present with the latest version of the Master Skid, which features a new design and new features, adding even more value to operations.
“When we decided to enter as a supplier to the general forest sector, our first thought was ‘how can we help this market?’ With that in mind, we decided to listen to those who most understand the market: our customers. In several conversations we heard that the demands for monitoring, connectivity and lighting were high, due to the lack of quality signal coverage to enable operations and efficient lighting for night operations. Today, we present ourselves at Expoforest already consolidated in markets such as mining, and we hope to have the same success in the forestry sector”, says Ricardo Righi, CEO of MTower.
