EXPOFOREST WILL RECEIVE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE BASF PORTFOLIO FOR THE FORESTRY MARKET

BASF will be at Expoforest 2023, bringing news and presenting its complete portfolio for managing Eucalyptus and Pine forests.

In addition to getting to know products such as Pendulum® Aqua, a pre-emergent herbicide highly selective for the crop, and Fastac® 100, an effective ant killer for large ant nests, visitors will also be able to talk to the technical and commercial team and learn more about BASF’s solutions for forestry challenges.

According to the latest report by the Brazilian Tree Industry (Ibá), gross revenue from the forest sector in 2021 was the highest in its history, reaching R$ 244.6 billion and 9.93 million hectares of productive planted area in the country. This result and the relevance of the sector for the Brazilian economy are directly related to the proper management of weeds that can harm forest productivity.

The Pendulum® Aqua pre-emergent herbicide controls the main weeds such as Brachiaria grass, Colonian grass, Colchão grass, Marmalade grass, Purslane, among others. Its water-based microencapsulated formulation provides high residual in wet periods, and, as it is selective for Pinus and Eucalyptus, it can be applied on the plants, in the row, between the rows or in the total area, in the initial stage of the forest before the weeds emerge from the soil.

According to Embrapa Floresta, leaf-cutting ants are the main pests in forestry, capable of defoliating Eucalyptus and Pinus forests, preventing development and directly affecting their growth rate, especially in dry seasons. Large infestations can reduce up to 1/3 of the productivity of these crops.

Aware of the challenge of effectively controlling leaf-cutting ants, BASF has developed the only portfolio on the market that allows integrated pest management, with efficient and diversified solutions to mitigate impacts and safeguard forest productivity. The Fastac®100 insecticide is yet another alternative for controlling large anthills, immediately paralyzing the entire operation and quickly controlling the pest infestation. Flexible at the time of application, the insecticide becomes even more effective.

“The Brazilian forestry market generates inputs, jobs, moves the economy and shows us that it is possible to balance productivity and environmental preservation. Good management strategies go through the use of appropriate products, applied safely and that make it possible to effectively control factors that may, in some way, compromise the productivity and operational efficiency of forestry. Events like Expoforest are great opportunities to leverage a sector that is so relevant and that brings so many benefits to our country,” says Ricardo Zanquettim, Forestry Business Manager at BASF.
