FORESTRY BASE SECTOR DRIVES INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION IN ESPÍRITO SANTO STATE

According to data released by the Federation of Industries of the State of Espírito Santo – FINDES, pulp and paper production had a good performance in 2022 in the state. Figures revealed in February indicate that increased demand from the foreign market contributed to the production of cultivated trees products   growing by 7.3% in 2022, compared to 2021.

The data were compiled by Findes’ Industry Observatory and are part of the IBGE’s Monthly Industrial Production (PIM) survey. The PIM also showed that the general industry of Espírito Santo closed 2022 with a decrease of 8.4%, compared to the previous year, compared to the 0.7% reduction registered by the country. Among the main responsible for the negative indicator in Espírito Santo are the extractive industry (-18.7%) and some sectors of the manufacturing industry (-3.5%).

The executive manager of the Industry Observatory and chief economist at Findes, Marília Silva, comments that, in the case of the manufacturing industry in Espírito Santo, only the manufacture of cellulose, paper and paper products recorded growth in 2022. “Elements such as positive demand and solid for short fiber in North America, Europe and China helped sustain the performance of this activity in the state. Throughout 2022, other specific factors also contributed to the growth of pulp production and exports from Espírito Santo, such as delays in the installation of new projects in Latin America, which may have favored Espírito Santo’s supply of these products in the foreign market”, explains Marília.
