SUZANO AND CORTEVA SHARING EUCALYPTUS GENOME

A partnership between Suzano and Corteva will contribute to the scientific development and genetic improvement of eucalyptus trees. FuturaGene, Suzano’s biotechnology division, is sharing a new eucalyptus reference genome with the scientific community.

Access to this genome will allow scientists from private and public institutions to carry out their own research on eucalyptus crops. Although this genus already has an extraordinary growth in Brazil, this new genome can contribute to, in addition to rapid growth, allowing the development of even better-quality wood. The new eucalyptus reference genome could generate more resilient trees and healthier forests, contributing to even more sustainable wood production.

The action is not unprecedented. In 2014, Suzano has donated the BRASUZ1 Eucalyptus grandis clone, to be used as the basis for a public project to sequence the first eucalyptus genome.
